Chinese and Brazilian Wine : New Kids on the Block:

You are wandering down the wine aisle in your local supermarket.  Or better still, you are browsing Binends.com pondering what wine to buy. You're cruising through your check list: French, Chilean, Californian, Italian, Brazilian, Chinese.

Hang on a sec, Chinese, Brazilian? Really? Has the time come to add a new region or two to your list of favourites? It would seem so.

We haven't added any to our supplies yet, but that doesn't mean our suppliers aren't talking about it. Some in our market are now turning their heads to wines from unfamiliar regions, if only to shore up their profit margins.

In fact, a minor UK supermarket (you may not have heard of Waitrose?) has announced it is to become the first British supermarket to stock Chinese and Brazilian wine. But what of the quality? It could soon be time to find out.

Our Favourite Wine Blogs

At any given time, someone, somewhere, is manically writing down their thoughts in a blog – and when it comes to our favourite subject, there's no exception to that rule.

Let Binends.com educate you on four of the best:

WineConversation.com

As the title suggests WineConversation.com isn't your typical wine column. It covers wine in the broader sense. There are no holds barred when it comes to subject matter. Topics range from up to the minute issues, wine marketing techniques, technology and the use of social media in bringing wine to life.

We were particularly keen on April feature A re-telling of a Wine Fairytale.

wineanorak.com

Jamie Goode is a British wine journalist who writes for several well-known wine magazines and runs the Wine Anorak website. He devotes his more informal writing for his blog, in which he's chatty and interactive about his life as wine professional. A recent piece finds him wondering whether he should post more negative reviews,  'I taste a lot of wines and only a few of these end up on this blog. This filtering process means that you will tend only to see positive reviews here. Some people have commented on this.'

If you'd like to find out which wines didn't make Jamie's cut or want to know about his most recent comments on the benefits of blind tasting, do give this blog a read!

Dr. Vino

So, Dr. Vino, a.k.a. Tyler Colman, isn't just posing as a wine doctor to get more kudos - he really is a doctor! His passion for all things wine is apparent in his decision to write a Ph.D. on the political economy of the wine industry in France and the United States. We agree with his assertion that he produces 'Wine talk that goes down easy.'

Coleman's slightly sardonic tone (Liver Battle: French politician say 'non' to Californian wine) captures the increasingly influential wine industry being used as a bargaining tool and 'ruffling feathers!'  Intrigued?  Check out the blog … we think Dr Vino has all the right medicine!

Thirstforwine.co.uk

As some of you may know, Binends.com has embraced Twitter with gusto recently (@BinendsCom), so we thought it apt to include a blog that frequently comes top in the twitter blog listings, Thirstforwine.co.uk (@thirstforwine).  It's light-hearted and fun. Take a look at May's Wine Cheered the Video Star for examples of wine appearing naturally in our popular culture. Wine tasting at a vineyard as a setting for a huge music video? The perfect ambience?

April Showers? Recession? There Must Be Something We Can Celebrate!? How About a Special Offer on Cava!?

Our thought for April!: if English and Welsh vineyards got excited about their 2011 vintage thanks to last year's unseasonal heat, lack of rain and late frosts, they've certainly been brought down to earth this year. What a month! A wetter April we have never seen! We feel for them as they continue to compete successfully with the best European vineyards...

To chill, or not to chill your wine

The business of whether to chill a wine or not is very much a personal choice. If it helps, the general convention is to chill white wines, but to keep the reds at a normal room temperature. This way all the flavours and aromas of the wines are at their best.

Why do some wine bottles have indents in the bottom of the bottle?

This indentation is called a "punt" in English. An obscure word, unknown even to many wine enthusiasts, its origins are lost in history. But here are a few theories:
